Ucas, the university admissions service , is considering whether students should write a separate personal statement for each of the five university courses they apply for, rather than write a generic personal statement for all of them, as they do at present. If you’re applying to Cambridge, you’ll be advised by the college when it needs to be submitted usually early November. Roderick Smith, director of admissions at Birmingham University , said his university had refused to consider “several dozen” students last year after it found out they had paid an essay mill to write their personal statements for them. The application process is very competitive, and sadly there just are not enough places for all the people who apply. Both universities require some applicants to send samples of written work as part of the application. If you are invited to interview, it is likely that your interviewers will discuss this work with you so be prepared to talk about it and make sure you keep a copy that you can re-read prior to interview.

Inevitably, the first draft of your personal statement will be too long! While academic departments are responsible for core teaching and assessment, a college will be your home when studying.
What makes Oxford and Cambridge such special universities? Although this does not seem like long, it is sufficient as long as you get to work straight away and allow enough time to seek advice and re-draft, just like you did with your personal stateemnt. This could also be something to put on your personal statement! This means that you may be interviewed by more than one college and you may receive an offer from a different college than applied to.
The qualities looked for include your ability and motivation to go beyond what is required for your current studies. Overseas univrsity may have different deadlines to those for UK or EU students; please check with the relevant university. For Oxford, where applications are around three per place, most applicants will be shortlisted. However, there are some disadvantages as sttement, as their portrayal in the media has led to some popular — but false — stereotypes about what kind of students are admitted.
Students who intend to progress directly to university after school or apply for deferred entry will need to attend an Open Day in the summer of year 12, allowing them to make a decision about where to apply in advance of the UCAS deadline in October. It is not a matter of how quickly — or even whether — you arrive at a particular answer. However do mention them if you are also applying to unis that consider them important – and link them to academic skills such as time management, organisation, teamwork etc.
Each college will have a diverse range of students — usually including both undergraduate and graduate students — studying across a range of subject areas. These are assessments taken by all applicants to a subject, regardless of College. Cambridge is a lot more varied than you think: Cambrdge colleges have different characteristics so it is worth investigating which might suit you best again, visit where possible.
